Fees: What Will It Cost?

My aim is to add value to the work of the other members of the legal team by applying my expertise in whatever form - advocacy, advisory or otherwise - the client requires. For these services the remuneration which I seek is competitive, just and fair.

I appreciate that costs constraints have always to be kept in mind. My fee charging rates incorporate an appropriate degree of flexibility. The rate depends upon the nature of the task undertaken and the amount reflects, but is not necessarily tied to, the time expended.

Fees should be discussed at the outset and agreed, at least in principle, before instructions are accepted. I am always prepared to provide an indication of fee levels for the job after discussion with my clerks.

A charging rate often agreed is £250 per hour, but this is given only as an indication and is subject to discussion in the context of the job concerned. Fees are often controlled by careful assignment of the various tasks involved within the legal team.
